Academy
Award-winning actress, celebrated vocalist and Chicago native Jennifer Hudson
is scheduled to make her Ravinia debut July 16 with an 8 p.m. performance.
The
nation came to know Hudson during her American Idol competition where she
finished as a finalist. She followed that event with her big screen debut in
the movie-musical Dreamgirls. It was her role as Effie White in the film,
alongside singer Beyonce and Broadway star Anika Noni Rose, which garnered
Hudson a best supporting actress Oscar.
The
Harlem String Quartet appears for the first time at Ravinia July 28. The
quartet will perform works of Lszt, Turina and join pianist Cipa Dichter in a
performance of Schumann’s Piano Quintet in E-Flat Major.
NORTHWESTERN
UNIVERSITY’S CHORAL CONDUCTOR, ROBERT A. HARRIS, conducts orchestra, chorus and
soloists in a performance of Johannes Brahms, Ein deutsches Requiem (A German
Requiem) Saturday in Pick-Staiger Concert Hall.
SAXOPHONE
VIRTUOSO CHARLES LLOYD & ZAKIR HUSSAIN will be featured Friday at Symphony
Centre, 220 S. Michigan Avenue. Musicians performing with Lloyd include Jason
Moran, piano; Reuben Rogers, bass; and Eric Harlan, drums.
WORLD
PREMIERE OF 15 MINUTES with Allison Shoemaker directing members of the Ruckus
Theater at The Side Project Theatre, 1439 W. Jarvis Ave. Performances are
Thursday through Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $15.
ABOUT
FACE THEATRE presents The
Homosexuals, a world premiere by Philip Dawkins, directed by Donnie
Metzgar and featuring Patrick
Andrews, Scott Bradley, Elizabeth Ledo and Banjamin Sprunger. Also cast are
Stephen Cone, Eddie Diaz and John Francisco. The play is runs June 11 - July 24
at the Victory Gardens Richard Christiansen Theater, 2433 N. Lincoln St.
Curtain is Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays at 8 p.m.; Saturdays at 5 p.m. and 9
p.m. Tickets are $28.
