CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago State University has named a room in its Academic Library after a biology professor who willed $1 million to the school.
The donation made by Julian Scheinbuks is largest
ever by a faculty member to a public Illinois university.
Scheinbuks worked at Chicago State for more than 20
years as an educator, researcher and administrator. He promised before his July
2010 death to return all the money he earned while employed at the school.
Scheinbuks grew up not far from Chicago State,
located on the city's South Side.
According to school officials, Scheinbuks, who
never married, was known to either wax reverently or issue fearless criticism
on issues he was passionate about.
CSU Foundation director Katey Assem said Tuesday a
lot can be done with Scheinbuks' bequest.
