For the past 45 Years, The Coalition for United Community Labor Force, under the direction of Rev. John C. Hatchett, has been a strong grassroots leader in the pursuit of economic parity for Chicago’s minority residents. The major ingredients comprising the Coalition’s commendable success are commitment, determination, wisdom, and persistence. Combined, these key elements have sustained and enhanced the Coalition’s efforts to empower minorities through increased employment and contracting opportunities. Over the years, the Coalition has worked with numerous organizations, leading corporations and government agencies to obtain meaningful jobs, legitimate construction contracts, adequate housing and quality education for Chicago’s African American residents and other minorities.
In the
process, the Coalition has been privileged to form effective and lasting
relationship with many who share its mission. The Coalition has participated on
the following construction projects: Cook County Hospital, the University of
Illinois at Chicago, South Campus Development, Midway Airport, Solider Field,
ABN AMRO, Stevenson Expressway/IDOT, MPEA, and (UIC) Medical Research Building.
The
Coalition has been privileged to form effective and lasting relationships with
many who share its mission. As a
way to recognize these relationships, the Coalition will acknowledge their
accomplishments and successes. This year awardees are Cynthia Williams: Austin People Action
Center-Business Woman of the Year, Michael House: Chicago Defender- Community
Service of the Year, Mark Levy: Moo and Oink- Community Service of the Year, Jeffrey
A. Karp: Power Construction - Construction Company of the Year, Tom Ricketts:
Chicago Cubs- Business Man of the Year and Joseph Williams: Target Group Inc.
–Outstanding Community Service.
This
event will take place June 2 at the East Bank Club, 500 N. Kingsbury.
