Ill. top lawyer: Lower fruit drink alcohol content

Associated Press

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Illinois' top lawyer says a new alcoholic drink in various fruit flavors poses severe health risks and is being marketed to minors.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan says Woodbridge-based Pabst Brewing Co. should lessen the alcohol concentration in its newest malt beverage called Blast. The drink allegedly contains the same alcohol concentration as four 12-ounce cans of beer.

Madigan also takes issue with marketing for the drink. Rapper and entertainer Snoop Dog is featured prominently in advertisements for the drink. She says the company is targeting underage drinkers.

Madigan joins a group of 17 other U.S. attorneys general in the request. Attorneys general across the nation have targeted alcohol-infused drinks — most famously Four Loko by Phusion Projects, which agreed last year to remove caffeine from the drink.
