CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Transit Authority says no wheels ever left the tracks in an incident that delayed trains on three elevated lines. No injuries have been reported.
The Tuesday morning incident was first reported as
a minor derailment.
CTA spokeswoman Wanda Taylor says one train car
failed to completely switch to the proper track at a switch-point. That left
part of the car on the new track and part of it on the old track. Taylor says
CTA doesn't consider that a derailment.
Thirteen people were on the train. Chicago Fire
Department spokesman Kevin MacGregor says power to the tracks was shut off so
the stranded passengers could walk 100 to 200 yards from the derailed train to
the Belmont station.
Buses still are shuttling passengers around the
site.
