Melody Angel performs at House of Blues

by Andrea Watson, ChicagoDefender.com Contributor

Melody Angel satisfied the House of Blues audience in Chicago recently with her rich and electrifying guitar playing and soulful voice.

Angel was an opening act at Lupe Fiasco’s album release celebration.

She said growing up many people thought she was strange because not only was she was a Black girl who sang and listened to Rock, but she also skateboarded.

“I skateboard and my whole life people used to dog me, like ‘what are you doing with that skateboard, black people don’t skateboard,’ then ‘Kick, Push’ (by Lupe) came out and suddenly skateboarding was cool,” Angel told the Defender.

Angel said the song apparently became her “anthem.”
