CHICAGO (AP) — Researchers at Cook County Health and Hospitals System and Rush University Medical Center are recipients of a $2 million federal grant to fight superbugs.
The Chicago project is one of five "prevention
epicenters" funded by the federal Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention.
Rush and Cook County were chosen because of their
long collaboration and research on infection prevention in hospitalized
patients.
The researchers are looking into better ways to
lower patients' risk of infection from drug-resistant superbugs like the staph
germ MRSA.
