Ex-Obama social secretary on inaugural committee

Associated Press

CHICAGO (AP) — A former social secretary in President Barack Obama's White House is on the inauguration committee for Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel and other city officials.

Desiree Rogers was named Tuesday as one of seven people to serve on the committee that will put together the May inauguration for Chicago's three citywide elected officials.

Rogers is now CEO of Chicago's Johnson Publishing Company. She and Emanuel worked together at the White House where he was Obama's chief of staff. Emanuel beat five opponents in the Feb. 22 election to replace Mayor Richard Daley, who didn't seek a seventh term.

Rogers left the White House last year, a few months after she was criticized for an embarrassing incident where two guests crashed the Obama administration's first state dinner.
