SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Illinois lawmakers are taking a closer look at how to protect high school athletes from concussions.
The House Education Committee meets Wednesday to
consider legislation requiring schools to remove players from the game if
they're suspected of having a concussion. The player would not be allowed to
return until after getting written clearance from a medical professional
trained in evaluating concussions.
Former Chicago Bears player Kurt Becker is
scheduled to testify in favor of the measure.
There are growing concerns that football players suffer long-term damage from concussions.
