Scholarships and grants were awarded recently to a few of Columbia College students and a non-profit organization during a hair showcase extravaganza.
Three students in the Conaway Achievement Project at Columbia received $1,500 scholarships each and Deborah’s Place, a non-profit providing housing and support services to homeless women, was awarded a $1,500 grant.
“I give
all honor to God because I really trust Him in everything I do and I believe that
even something like this scholarship is a blessing from him,” said scholarship
recipient Aaja Carr.
Carr, an
arts/entertainment and media management major plans to move to New York after
graduation to purse a career as a fashion stylist.
The
show’s marketing programming director said the theme, “Business with a Hope.”
“We
always give back to the community,” said David Williams, programming director.

Rhythms, a hip hop dance group, The Industries dance group, songstress Shirley Murdock and Terrell Carter,
who appeared in Tyler Perry’s films, performed.
