Mass. gov to meet with top Obama political adviser

Associated Press
BOSTON (AP) — Gov. Deval Patrick is heading to Chicago to meet President Barack Obama's top political adviser David Axelrod to discuss ways he can help the president's reelection campaign.

A Patrick aide said the governor was set to leave Boston on Friday and have breakfast with Axelrod on Saturday. He'll return in time to attend a New Year's celebration in Boston's Chinatown on Saturday evening.

The meeting is the second this week between Patrick and a top Democrat. On Tuesday, Patrick met with Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine in Washington.

Patrick, a friend of Obama, ran a successful reelection campaign last year during a tough election cycle for Democrats.

The two also share Chicago roots and political advisors, including Axelrod who helped Patrick win his first bid for office in 2006.
